☆ Kraft’s newest Mac & Cheese is ditching cheese

New York CNN —Kraft’s new Mac & Cheese is ditching the cheese and going vegan. “Curiosity is a major factor in trying plant-based foods and beverages,” Sherry Frey, vice president of Total Wellness at NIQ, told CNN. The vegan cheese sauce is made with fava bean protein and coconut oil powder, creating a sauce that has a “similar taste, look and feel to dairy-based mac and cheese,” the company told CNN. Goodles, for example, is a Gal Gadot-backed startup that sells boxed pasta with more protein and fiber at a higher price that also has a plant-based mac and cheese in its portfolio. In particular, the Kraft brand recently rolled out a makeover of its Kraft Singles cheeses that emphasizes the cheese doesn’t have artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.

CNN —Miley Cyrus is reflecting on the backlash she received for a 2008 Vanity Fair cover in which she was photographed draped in a sheet. Famed photographer Annie Leibovitz captured the images, which also included photos of Cyrus with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus. “My little sister Noah [Cyrus] was sitting on Annie’s lap and actually pushing the button of the camera taking the pictures,” Cyrus said. “My family was on set and this was the first time I ever wore red lipstick.”Following controversy over the images, both Leibovitz and Cyrus issued statements. “But, really, really brilliant choices looking back now from those people.”

TERRACE STORY, by Hilary LeichterPriced out of their first home in an unnamed city, a young couple and their infant daughter, Rose, move into a smaller apartment. Structured as a collection of four linked stories, the book moves from Annie and Edward to another young couple, George and Lydia, who happens to be Rose’s daughter and is pregnant with her own. In the third section — the longest and most revelatory — Annie’s co-worker Stephanie is the focus of a grief-stricken origin story that deepens the novel’s supernatural fancies. The fourth section, set on an interstellar “suburb” as humanity migrates into outer space, brings Rose into contact with an “older woman” who is somehow Rose’s granddaughter. By contrast, Leichter announces her metaphysical conceit with a simple dinner party.
